Tips
for good computer health:
- Get the computer terminal off of the floor. Dust can cause major damage to your machine.
- Keep virus, spyware and Windows updates current. These processes can be automated. Contact me if you need help.
- If you are noticing slow online response, unplug from the net and call for help. The same thing goes for excessive popups. I'm sad to say that computer bugs are getting nastier all the time. I want you to stop them before they do too much damage.
- Make sure you have enough RAM. It is cheap, easy to install and it is the best money you can spend to improve your computing experience.
- Backup your data every night. It isn't really the computer you need, it is that data, and hard drives all go sometime.
- Make sure you have a current backup off-site from your computer location. This can be done online or you can take a disc or thumb drive off premises physically.
- Online backup programs have become easier to use and less expensive recently. I don't profit from this recommendation but have a look at www.carbonite.com. That is what I use and at around $50.00 a year for unlimited backup it is hard to beat.
- Listen to your computer. Too quiet? A fan may have stopped working that could cause it to overheat. Too noisy? That could mean your hard drive is about to die. Make sure you have a good backup then turn it off until you can have a tech inspect it.
- If you don't know how to take care of your computer, hire a technician to show you how. Most maintenance tasks are easy to learn. This knowledge can save you money.
